Relational therapy is an umbrella term. It describes a blend of treatment approaches, including emotion-focused, attachment-based, and psychodynamic therapies. They all share in common a focus on relationships and their fundamental role in maintaining our balance.
Relational therapy views psychological distress as being a direct result of significant relationships breaking down; or failing to meet our core needs, including our need to feel loved, seen, understood, and connected. Relational therapy focuses on improving the quality of our relationships with self and others. Intrestingly, your relationship with your therapist can serve as a model for future relationships.
